Why is the metal hemmed?
Having the trim hemmed gives the pieces a more finished and sleek look, but more importantly, it assures that the edges are being protected from the environment.
What is the difference between your standard and premium trim?
Our standard trim is used industry wide. Our premium trim has a larger face and has hems along the edges. The premium trim is more aesthetically appealing.
What length does your trim come in?
Our trim comes in stock length of 10’ 3”. The 3” is to account for your overlap. The industry standard is only 10’ even, but this means you generally have to order extra pieces to compensate for the necessary overlap.
Can I pick up the trim when I get there?
We keep many trim items pre-made in stock, but we suggest discussing your needs with one of our sales staff and ordering all materials in advance to ensure that you receive exactly what you need for your specific project.
Do we sell more than just metal roofing panels?
1st Coast Metal Roofing Supply offers panels and all the necessary items needed for a weather tight installation. For added convenience, and we carry most items in stock.

Can I pick up the screws when I pick up my order?
1st Coast Metal Roofing Supply keeps a wide variety in stock for convenience. However, when you order a specific color, it is helpful to know ahead of time so we can ensure proper stock for your project.
What is the difference between a hip roof and a gable roof?
A hip roof has slopes all around the house coming to a point. A gable has two slopes that go up and the other sides would be vertical.
You could think of a hip roof like a pyramid, sloping on all sides, and a gable roof like an A-frame house sloping on only two sides.
How wide are the metal roofing panels?
The panel width will depend on the panel profile. They range from 12” to 3’ wide.
Do I need to put anything under the ridge?
Yes, you would want to place closures, either vented or solid under the ridge to ensure a weather tight installation. This would help prevent leaks and any damage that might occur on an open ridge.
Will putting metal roofing directly on top of shingles cause any damage to the metal panels?
Once the metal roofing is fastened down, the panels will not be damaged in any way. The Florida Product Approval Code ensures and allows for installation on top of up to one layer of shingles.
Is underlayment necessary for my project?
Necessity ranges on the specifics of the project. If you are working on a small dog house, underlayment may not be a big concern. However, if you are re-roofing your home, underlayment is a great investment. It acts as a roof under a roof.
Do all metal roofing panel profiles include a warranty?
The manufacturers do offer a warranty on all panel profiles. The warranty would depend on the panel type, home location, etc. The warranty would only be in place if you follow the Florida Product Approval Codes.
What are the differences between the Gauges of metal?
The gauge is the thickness of a metal roofing panel. There are multiple gauges from 18 Ga. to 29 Ga. The availability of each gauge is dependent on the type of metal panel profile you choose.
Where can Metal be delivered?
1st Coast Metal Roofing Supply does have the capability to deliver metal roofing packages. We also provide drop-shipping services for customers that are not in range of our standard delivery service. This would apply to our customers that we provide metal roofing material for in the Bahamas, for example. Drop shipping can be done to any location in the Continental U.S and many International ports around the world.
Will the driver unload the metal roofing material for me?
During a routine delivery, the driver will accommodate any reasonable requests. We have a Moffet delivery system available to place materials in a convenient location for you.
What is the difference between buying a Metal Roof Package and purchasing sheets of metal roofing through a Home Improvement chain?

What is Galvalume?
Galvalume is 55% Al-Zn (Aluminum-Zinc) coated sheet steel that is ideally suited for most types of roofing applications. An estimated 40 billion square feet of galvalume now cover buildings in all kinds of climates and environments throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as Europe, Asia and Australia. Galvalume is an ideal material for roofing because of its extraordinary outdoor corrosion resistance and resulting long life. It is extremely popular due to its versatility, ease of use, aesthetics and long-term performances.
Will a metal roof make me hot?
Actually, a metal roof can save your money on your a/c costs because it has a higher heat reflectivity and improved emissivity over other roofing products like asphalt, fiberglass shingles, wood, tile, etc. During the summer, it makes buildings cooler by efficiently reflecting away sunlight and reducing the amount of heat transmitted into the building. Reflectivity translates into energy savings by reducing cooling costs as much as 25%.
What about lightning?
Steel roofing is no more susceptible to lightning than any other roofing material. Lightning most frequently strikes the highest point in any terrain; and if your roof is at the highest point of the surrounding terrain, you can install lightning rods as you should no matter what is on your roof.
Is a Metal Roof too heavy for my home?
You’ll be surprised to learn that a Metal Roof, on average, is 50% lighter than an asphalt shingle roof, and 75% lighter than a concrete tile, fiber cement shakes and slate. With Metal Roofing, weight on a structure is never an issue.
Will a metal roof rust?
Galvalume coated steel roofing panels are protected by layers of metallic and polymer coatings. Industry studies have repeatedly shown them to outperform the corrosion resistance of other coated metals. They are available with warranties as long as 50 years.
